Today I was surprised that the Monarch caterpillars are in their chrysalis. I was a little sad because I missed the pupa dance and I really wanted to see the pupa dance. I think that the Monarch caterpillars are going to hatch to a butterfly on June 30, 2009. I wish the Monarch caterpillars will hatch on the last day of school.
Today I was also surprised that we found the Green Darner on the window! We still can’t tell if it is a female or immature male (not an adult). The Green Darner’s wings are light brown. Right now the Green Darner’s tail is red and the body is green. I can’t wait to see it fly! That’s what I did in class this morning.

Green Darners prey on humming birds. They are the biggest dragonfly in North America. Green Darners eat any insect that can fly.

We are going to feed it milkweed every day. Our caterpillar should hatch by the end of the school year.Monarch caterpillars shed their skin five times. Our caterpillar will get its colors tomorrow May 30, 2009. Right now our caterpillar’s head is black and its body is silver. Our caterpillar is also sleeping right now. See ya later.
